The Mare de Deu de Gràcia Festival is the highlight of Maó's festival calendar and marks the end of Menorca's busy summer. See black beauties from local horse stables parade through the streets in a spectacular show.
People pack the Plaza del Ayuntamiento as caparisoned horses, ridden by ornately dressed caixas, parade through the crowd. More experienced riders take part in equestrian games, such as jousting and, more dangerously, riders lock arms and gallop together, hoping their horses don't separate.
At night, once the horses have been given their hard-earned hay, the people take to the square for music and dancing.
