Under the umbrella of the Venice Biennale since 1930, this contemporary music festival presents concerts at various venues in the city. They focus on modern musical composition and include musical theatre, theatrical concerts, micro-opera, instrumental theatre, performance art and song.
Many of the works have been commissioned by the Music Biennale and many are receiving their Italian premières.
The 2009 edition continues to be directed by Luca Francesconi. Events are held at such venues as the Teatro La Fenice, Piccolo Teatro Arsenale and Teatro Alle Tese. The programme can be found on the Biennale website as soon as it is released.
