Snow covered peaks in Manali
When Dussehra celebrations come to an end in the rest of the country, they kick off in colourful style for a week all over the Kullu valley in Himachal Pradesh, marking the end of the year of festivals and celebrations for the area.
Processions of devotees bearing gold and silver images of gods and goddesses move to Kullu from all parts of the valley. The first day is marked by the homage paid to Lord Raghunath, while the following nine days are marked by performance rituals, Natti dances and plenty of traditional singing.

Traders from all over the valley (and, increasingly, the country) set up temporary stalls all over the valley offering their wares - so it's a good time for trade as well as devotion. At night thousands of people enjoy the International Cultural Festival in the open-air theatre at Kala Kendra.
