The annual madness otherwise known as the Fringe gets a grip on Melbourne once more with its exuberant array of new art, ideas and spectacle. The fun isn't restricted to theatres - any unsuspecting space is commandeered by ruthless thespians.
The event was founded in an old pram factory back in 1982, timed to coincide with the Moomba Festival, and well over 100 artists put on shows in a range of mediums around the city. Since then it has gone from strength to strength, proudly taking a prominent place in the city's cultural calendar and remaining as much about the exchange of ideas between artists and art forms as straight performance.
As ever, the festival is seeking out ways to involve artists with the community and to directly involve the wider public in the event - not just as audiences, but as participants too. You have been warned!
