The Lire en Fête is France's annual literature festival. Hundreds of events take place all over Paris and the rest of France to promote reading as a viable alternative to the twin obsessions of modern life, TV-watching and shopping.
From crime to theatre, classics and fairy tales, the whole of France revels in the joys of the written word. Paris' local libraries focus on promoting foreign literature via readings, lectures, food-tastings and music.
