The Cinekid Festival of film and television is aimed at children aged between four and 16. Based in the heart of Amsterdam, there are screenings of new children's feature films, animation and television programmes at de Balie and Pathé City.
In addition to watching the films, children can try out the latest interactive games in a hall filled with computers and actively participate in cross-media workshops.
Founded in 1987 as a small local festival, Cinekid has developed into a major event. The festival awards prizes for best films and TV shows, and there's a new media award for CDs and websites. Cinekid Professional organises seminars concerning subjects of interest to anyone involved with children and media.
The main festival is held in Amsterdam, but around 30 satellite festivals are held in other cities around the Netherlands. For full programme details, please visit the festival website.
