Cologne's Christmas Markets are among the most popular in Germany. Head for the Cathedral (hard to miss!) or try the Neumarkt, Alter Markt or Rudolfplatz squares for a traditional German Christmas. The Museum of Chocolate puts on a medieval-themed festive season.
The traditional stands at Neumarkt are handy for their central location - many shoppers stop by for a mug of mulled wine or a glass of the unique Kölsch beer.
The market in Rudolfplatz boasts as its backdrop the picturesque Hahnentor, one of the remaining medieval gates at the boundaries of the old city, and is a "fairy tale market" particularly designed for children. In front of the Museum of Chocolate, the Middle Ages come to life once again in the form of tumblers, musicians and craftsmen.
Please note that the various markets around the city have different opening and closing times. Please contact the tourist office before setting off.
