Casa de América is a museum and cultural centre dedicated to promoting Latin American arts and history. Set in Madrid's beautiful 18th-century Palacio de Linares, the centre showcases work by well-known and lesser-known artists and also hosts discussions and talks.
Casa de América opened in 1992 to commemorate 500 years since the "discovery" of the "New World" by Columbus in 1492. The centre includes a museum, cinema, library and shop.
Visitors can see work by artists from the region, some of whom are well known. There is also a cinema which shows Latin American films every day, a video library and a general library on Latin America. The centre also organises concerts, readings of Latin American fiction, an educational programme and discussions.
