Palmi's Feast of the Madonna of the Letter is a spectacular civic and religious procession. The parade is heralded by a cannon shot and involves an enormous cart with various levels carrying the Earth, the sun and the moon.
Steeped in folklore and beloved by the locals, the feast offers an extravagant representation of the Ascension of the Virgin to Heaven. Actors portray characters including God and the Animella, the woman representing the Madonna, who is virtually suspended in the void.
