The Dorfplatz square in Igls town centre is the scene of the cosy Krampuslaufen carnival and the accompanying Nikolauseinzug parade - two traditional Christmas highlights in this Innsbruck ski resort.
From 3pm you can try mulled wine and the delicious Krapfen (sweet pastries). Then at 5pm the Nikolauseinzug begins - Father Christmas makes his way around the town centre handing out sweets to the children. To round off the day, at 5.45pm, the main event begins.
During Krampuslaufen, around 70 Krampusse equipped with scary old wooden masks make their way through the centre transforming Igls into a large snow carnival. Children love it and visitors get a rare insight into the regional culture beyond the bars.
