Cape Town Pride encompasses a launch cocktail party, fashion shows, sports events, films and some great parties. The focal point however is the main Pride Parade, which reaffirms the diversity and sense of togetherness within the local gay community.
With the inception of South Africa's new constitution in 1994, which included the all important "freedom of sexual orientation" clause, Cape Town Pride was born. Well into its second decade, the festival is still going strong, attracting thousands of visitors and getting bigger every year.
In 2010 the festival stretches over ten days, with the "Mother of all Parades" departing from Greenpoint on Saturday 6 March. On that day expect thousands of people march alongside the outrageous floats before joining the carnival and the after-party celebration at one of Cape Town super trendy clubs.
Please keep an eye on the Cape Town Pride website for the full schedule and confirmation of the parade route.
