First held in 1994, the Fringe NZ Festival presents more than 100 productions at venues throughout Wellington. A myriad of shows, cabaret, drama, street theatre, gigs, live music and madcap stunts celebrate the art of performance.
Typical of Fringe events across the globe, this is an all-inclusive event, not only seeking audiences, but participants too.
In 2009, the line-up includes A Mime to Kill, a comedy performance from theatre group The Magniloquents. There's also Frogs Under the Waterfront, an unusual adaptation of The Frogs by Ancient Greek playwright Aristophanes, which sees the audience sitting in bobbing paddleboats.
As in previous years, fringe-goers can also attend one of the many night-time chat shows by the controversial Chit Chat Lounge, Fricnic (the Fringe NZ Festival picnic) and the opening and closing night parties.
Full details and listings for this year's event are published on the festival's website as soon as they are available.
