The Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR) brings together cowboys and cowgirls from around the world to the Thomas & Mack Center. The ultimate showdown championship, the ten-day event is known as the Superbowl of Rodeos.
Competing for US$5 million of prize money - and the winners' golden belt buckles - some 120 cowboys sling it out in seven events including bareback riding, saddle bronco riding, bull riding and tie-down roping.
Past champions have included Freckles Brown - the first man to ride 1850-pound bull Tornado for the full eight seconds - and "Kid" Jim Rodriguez Sr. Only a handful of contestants win more than one type of event, but whatever it is you'll be sure to be sitting on the edge of your seat for these gruelling, and often dangerous, competitions.
The event has been entertaining the population of Las Vegas and hundreds of thousands of outsiders since 1959. To see it for yourself, we recommend you book tickets as soon as possible, as each year gets sold out pretty quickly. Of over a million tickets applied for, less than 40,000 are distributed to the general public.
