The sunny streets of San Lluís fill with people during the town's Equine Fiesta. In a test of skill, riders dressed in tails perform the traditional jaleo, encouraging their horses to rear up on their hind legs among the crowds.
The jaleo is one of several skills practised by the riders, or caixers, of the island. Over 50 riders compete for the sought-after titles of caixer senyor, caixer pagesos and caixer menestral.
The festival is dedicated to Saint Louis IX, the town's patron, and features an opening ceremony, horse races, concerts and fireworks.
