Official residence of the Swedish royal family, The Royal Palace in Gamla Stan is an 18th-century city landmark. Unimpressive from the outside, its interior is dominated by Baroque luxury. Coincide a visit with the daily changing of the guard.
The palace is one of a handful of Royal residences, but probably the most impressive of the lot. With about 608 rooms, the Baroque-styled building is among the largest surviving palaces in Europe.
Explore the Banqueting Apartments, the Royal Treasury, the Royal Chapel, the Tre Kronar Museum, the Riddarholmen Church, Gustav III's strange Museum of Antiquities and more, with or without the assistance of a guide. Each is open at different times, and it is possible to buy a ticket for one or all. If you go for all however, give yourself a decent amount of time to explore - it's a huge venue!
