The Laird Hotel is one of Melbourne's oldest hotels, built as the Laird O'Cockpen Hotel in 1847. Since 1980 it has been an exclusively gay venue, with something different happening on every night of the week.
The Laird Hotel has one of the longest consistent operating records for a gay hotel anywhere in the world. It is open seven nights a week and combines an industrial look with a cruising atmosphere, open fireplaces and a beer garden.
There are a number of one-off and monthly events at the Laird Hotel, although regular nights include Tuesday's Pool Competition Night (with rock and pop music), Wednesday's Trashy Trivia quiz night and the mega-popular Friday nights with resident DJs playing Pure House.
