The Cresta Run at St Moritz Tobogganing Club is one of winter sport's legendary, and most dangerous, challenges. Each year the run opens for the brave and the crazy to take their chances on the ice.
Rather insultingly, the run is open to men only, so if you're female you'll have to be content being a spectator.
While bobsled tracks are man-made, with high banked corners, the Cresta is made of natural ice which follows the contours of the land, and has a tendency to throw racers from the track. The racers who take on the fearsome descent lie head-first on small Skeleton toboggans and hurtle down the 1200-metre track only inches above the ground, steering with their shoulders in order to remain streamlined.
While watching is enough for most, non-members who are brave enough can take tuition and try the run themselves. Full details of how to apply are available on the St Moritz Tobogganing Club website. Be aware that the opening dates are reliant on the weather, so please check before visiting.
