Basel's Beyeler Foundation presents 130 paintings on the subject of Venice at the Venice: From Canaletto and Turner to Monet exhibition. Among the many highlights is a selection of the 36 paintings of the city by Claude Monet.
During the 19th century Venice, with its beautiful watery setting and bustling everyday life, became a popular subject for artists and writers. Major artists represented at this exhibition include Canaletto, Francesco Guardi, William Turner, James McNeill Whistler, Edouard Manet and Pierre Auguste Renoir.
