This is Austria's biggest international film festival. Film buffs visit Vienna's cinemas and arts spaces to see premières by upcoming independent film-makers. One of the few film festivals aimed mainly at the general public, it attracts around 90,000 each year.
Founded by a group of film critics in 1960, it has premièred such celebrated movies as Truffaut's first film, Les quatre cents coups, and Kurosawa's The Hidden Fortress.
Further details of this year's programme are released on the festival website as soon as they are available.
