As a preview to the annual Chester Food and Drink Festival, the city hosts its famous Cheese Rolling Championships. Locals cheer on the Cheshire team as they take on their Lancashire and Stilton rivals over a creative obstacle course.
Participants carry a wheel of Cheshire cheese around the Chester Walls and deliver it to the starting gate in Bridge Street. The Dean of Chester Cathedral, Professor Gordon McPhate, starts the race at 11am. The monthly producers' market in the Town Hall Square hosts extra stalls by the cheese-rolling course, selling quality local delicacies.
