Doha's annual Festival of the Senses examines the essence of various sporting disciplines through interactive displays and activities that affect the human senses.
There are four distinctive "Sense Tents", which focus on taste, touch, scent and sight. The first section sheds light on nutrition in sport with an eclectic mix of tastes and flavours from Qatar. The Touch Tent is all about textures and equipment, displaying materials such as petrol in its original form that the public can touch.
Stimulating the olfactory senses, the scent pavilion mixes traditional fragrances like incense, spices and leather with sport-related smells from swimming pools, grass fields etc, while the Sight Tent is a colourful section encompassing an interactive photo gallery and cycling activities. Here, when the sun goes down, visitors can pedal on colourful bicycles to generate a rainbow of silhouettes which are projected on to the nearby Salam Towers.
All along the Corniche, Sound Towers broadcast sounds associated with sport, Qatar and the Asian Games (held here in 2006), while a 10-metre giant screen displays live sporting action from around the world.
