During Pisa's Luminara di San Ranieri, thousands of candles are lit along the Arno. Hanging on white wooden frames, the candles enhance the shapes of the buildings and bridges dotted along the river, creating a breathtaking spectacle of light.
The Luminaria is an old Pisan tradition that was initiated in the 17th century, but eventually became solely associated with the celebration of San Ranieri, the city's patron saint.
