Ambato is commonly dubbed Ecuador's "garden city"; the annual Fruit and Flower Festival, Fiesta de la Fruta y de las Flores, is a perfect reminder of this nickname with events at various locations around the city.
The month of February bursts at the seams with a variety of music, dance and sports events to celebrate the yearly Fruit and Flower Festival, where the locals traditionally attend a blessing given to the fruit and flowers in the cathedral.
