Ireland's largest jazz event, the Guinness Cork Jazz Festival presents a broad and impressive line-up each year. Performances take place at venues around the city including the Everyman Palace Theatre and the Savoy.
The event has attracted many of the greats over the years, including Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie and Art Blakey.
Highlights in 2009 include the Sun Ra Arkestra - continuing the musical legacy of the legendary jazz innovator, avant-garde tenor saxophonist Pharoah Sanders, the piano-lead Monty Alexander Trio, drummer extraordinaire Jack DeJohnette performing with multi-instrumentalist John Surman and innovative piano trio the Bad Plus.
