Quito's markets join forces for a sumptuous local gastronomy competition. The annual Gastronomic Market Festival is unmissable for those willing to try any of the speciality dishes that Ecuador throws at them.
Alongside the typical ceviche dish of raw fish and lime juice come intriguing creations such as that of yuhuarlocro - a potato soup with oregano, peanuts and sheep's entrails served with avocado, spicy onion and tomato, and a special sauce made of sheep's blood. The yuhuar itself means 'blood' in Quechua.

Live music and ballet accompany the sampling and gorging. A panel of judges choose a winner from the diverse dishes.
