Classical music fills the Centro de Bellas Artes Luis A Ferré during the Casals Festival in San Juan. The festival was started by the world-renowned Spanish cellist Pablo Casals when he moved to Puerto Rico, his mother's homeland, in 1956.
With performances also at the Theatre of the University of Puerto Rico as well as both Sala Teatro René Marques and the Sala Antonio Paoli in the Centro de Bellas Artes, the Casals Festival attracts an international roster of artists and ensembles.
Highlights for 2009 included the New York Philharmonic with Lorin Maazel, while the Casals Festival's founder was particularly celebrated by young Spanish quartet, Cuarteto Casals as part of the chamber music programme.
Please check the Casals Festival website for upcoming festival details.
