The streets of Belfast fill with colour, dance and drumming during the Belfast City Carnival. Organised by the tireless Beat Initiative, it includes a Carnival Parade and Party. It also marks the beginning of the Lord Mayor's term of office.
The parade starts on Royal Avenue and moves along to Donegall Place. It circles around City Hall then heads back to the High Street, finishing on Custom House Square. It regularly features carnival bands from Belfast, along with special guests from Brazil and beyond.
In the week before the carnival there is a programme of workshops and other educational events.
