On the morning of 17 May, thousands of Norwegian children dress in their best clothes, pin on rosettes and take part in the annual Constitution Day parade. Oslo's event is particularly impressive, with a graduating students' version in the afternoon.
For the best view of proceedings head to Oslo's main street, Karl Johan, or the space in front of the Royal Palace. The Royal Family tend to make an appearance during the day, waving to the children as they march by.

Students leaving after the exams celebrate by dressing in red or blue overalls and caps, depending on the subjects they studied. They paint cars and buses red and blue, and have their own more boisterous parade, which often involves making fun of a current event or famous person.
