Like culture but not queuing? Visit Paris for the Nuit des Musées. On one spring night, museums across France open until 1am, offering a chance to see the Louvre, and hundreds more, for free - no tour bus in sight.
The Nuit des Musées is an initiative launched by the French Department of Culture in 2005. It opens up some 1000 museums throughout France and Europe to the public, to a background of debates, competitions, conferences and exhibitions, from dusk until 1am, all for no charge. Similar events take place throughout Europe on the same date.
Participating museums are announced in the run-up to the day, but it is almost certain that there will be a free museum in your vicinity. Please visit the Nuit des Musées website for further information and to find out exactly where you can get your free nocturnal culture.
