The grand Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art building is located west of the city centre in a spectacular sculpture garden. It houses notable works by Matisse, Picasso, Bacon and Warhol as well as an extensive collection of Scottish works.
The gallery is situated in a grand 1820s building overlooking a vast landscaped lawn, to the west of Edinburgh's city centre. Its grounds are peppered with sculptures by the likes of Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth, with the lawn designed by famous architect Charles Jencks.
The modern art collection inside is one of the finest in Scotland. Some of its most interesting pieces include work by modern British artists like local sculptor Eduardo Paolozzi and the "name-wall" by Douglas Gordon.
The gallery shows rotating displays because it owns too many pieces to show all at any one time - so you may not see everything you want to on a single trip.
