Situated in South-West France and rubbing shoulders with the Atlantic coast, Aquitaine is a perennially popular destination for visitors. It is easy to work out the attraction too as miles of beaches, lush pine forests and gallons and gallons of wine continue to seduce tourists.
Throughout the summer months, the Landes Atlantic coast is ideal for strolling through the pine forests and, water temperature depending, dipping in the ocean for some surfing and swimming at Hossegor, one of the numerous coastal resorts. More cosmopolitan attractions can be found in the historic city of Bordeaux (Gironde region) which features elegant 18th century architecture and a variety of excellent museums.
The highlight for many though in Aquitaine is undoubtedly the wine. The Médoc vineyards and the hilltop town of Saint-Emilion produce wine of such a high quality that only the teetotal or the foolish will go home empty-livered.
